Half Marathon Told by Mindy Kaling
Mindy is hilarious—and her mannerisms are totally relatable to running a half (right?).
Whether you’re getting ready to run your first or hundredth half marathon, this what it’s like to run a half marathon, as told by Mindy Kaling.
The Night Before The Race
Carbs are half the fun of running. Reach for that extra guilt free dinner roll during your pre-race meal. Treat yourself.
The Morning Of The Race
Isn’t it fun to wake up really early to run really far?!?!
At the Starting Line
Don’t Panic! Trust your training! You’re going to do great!
The gun goes off, you cross the starting line and then you feel the surge of adrenaline rush through your system. Just keep an eye on your pace, just because you feel invincible doesn’t mean that you are.
Go on, brush your shoulders off! Settle into your rhythm and enjoy! The beginning of races are fun because nothing hurts!
Mile 3 , you’re basically done! Who said running a half marathon was hard?
Mile 4 already? This just may be the best day of your life.
You’re starting to notice the sweat dripping off your face but it only makes you feel that much more badass.
Almost halfway there! This half marathon is yours!
You notice your legs starting to get a little heavy…how many more miles are there left?
At mile 8 you start to feel fatigued… You start to regret that mile 3 dance break.
Ugh 4 entire miles to go? This is boring. Running is boring.
This is what pain feels like… but you dig deep, push harder and start repeating those race mantras you practiced in training. “I can do this!” You repeat to yourself over and over again.
Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow.
“WHO’S IDEA WAS THIS ANYWAYS!?!?” You scream when you see the 12th mile marker.
“Almost there! So close! I’m never doing this again!” You proclaim as you force your legs to go a tiny bit faster.
Crossing the Finish Line
You did it! There’s the finish line! Overcome with pride, you manage to leap across the finish line for a photo finish totally worth the $40 race day photo price tag!
Getting Your Medal
“THANK YOU!” You cry as the volunteer places that shiny medal around your neck and congratulates you on your accomplishment.
After the Race
“When can I do that again?” You think as you inhale a cheeseburger.
It’s incredible how quickly you forget the pain you were in just hours earlier. Running a half marathon is no walk in the park! But there is nothing like running like it. From the adrenaline to the sense of accomplishment, it’s worth every painful and rewarding step.
Until next time, #RunSelfieRepeat.
