Kenny M. – 1:35 pacer

Kenny began running in high school, competing in both cross-country and track, as an alternative to playing football. He has been a runner ever since. Kenny ran at Northwest Missouri State University (Go Bearcats!!), before being sidelined by injury. After college, Kenny began running again to stay active, and to get in better shape. He has run over 170 races to date, including 34 marathons (PR of 2:52), and over 75 half marathons (PR of 1:20). Kenny believes the biggest mistake people can make is starting off too fast. He is looking forward to sharing his passion for running with others and helping them and encouraging them to reach their running goals. Through his high energy and motivation, Kenny is confident he can help you achieve your goal time. What does he enjoy about running? Helping people in reaching their goals, being active, and the camaraderie and atmosphere in the running community. Also, running allows him to eat lots of Peanut M&Ms (it’s a mild addiction…ha) without too much guilt.

Lettie C. – 1:35 pacer

Lettie was a NCAA Div 1 rower for the KU Jayhawks. Several years after graduation, she decided to get back into competitive athletics, and picked up running (all distances 5k-marathon) and triathlon. She is a USAT All-American, competing in local and national events. Lettie enjoys pacing for the opportunity to encourage others and help them achieve their goals they have worked so hard to accomplish.

Scott B. – 1:40 pacer

Scott is a veteran of 9 marathons, over 40 half-marathons, and 82 triathlons including an Ironman. He is a 2013 All-American Triathlete. He has paced 20+ races with SmartPacing. From that pacing experience, Scott is convinced the Smart Pacing Strategy is the best method for getting the most runners to beat their pace goal and to have the best race experience.

Kelly D. – 1:40 pacer

Kelly was a competitive swimmer growing up and swam competitively in college at the University of Kansas. After college, Kelly began running and competing in triathlons. She is an All-American triathlete and really enjoys pacing running events and helping individuals reach their race day goals. Last year, Kelly paced the Kansas City marathon (3:40 pace) and the Lawrence 1/2 marathon (1:40 pace) and brought her teams in just under their goal times.

Robert M. – 1:45 pacer

Robert started running in high school cross country but took several years off after that. He began running again just a couple years ago and since then has ran 8 Marathons and 11 Half’s. He contributes most if his success to his long time training partners, “they get me up and get me motivated” He said, “We log a LOT of miles together and frankly I would never have gotten anywhere without them”. He knows that the people around you in training AND a race can greatly increase your performance and he hopes to get you to your goal too.

James hadn’t ran farther than a mile since middle school, but thought to himself, I’m getting close to 30, I should run a marathon! The race day atmosphere and sense of accomplishment was infectious and he caught the running bug. Numerous races later he wants to help others accomplish their own goals.

Kris B. – 1:50 pacer

Kris enjoys helping runners get to the fiinish line. She paced the KC Marathon three years ago and came in 30 seconds before her Pace time. She has run a total of 15 marathons and numerous half marathons. She is a personal fitness trainer and certified running coach. Her favorite saying is “Pain is the feeling of weakness leaving the body”.

Candice B. – 1:50 pacer

Candice ran her first half marathon as a challenge to herself in 2007. She enjoyed the training so much, it became an immediate addiction. Shortly after, Candice completed her first marathon, the Kansas city marathon, in 2009. Since 2009, Candice has completed 11 marathons including Boston and over 20+ half marathons. Candice’s favorite things about running are meeting new people, running farther than most people drive, doing something healthy for her body, and eating finish line pizza! Candice brings her passion, high-energy, and enthusiasm to every race with a mission to motivate you to reach your goals! Get ready to light it up and have fun because you are about to blow your goals out of the water!

Jamie G. – 1:55 pacer

Jamie began running in college as a way to stay in shape. On a whim she decided to train for a half-marathon and fell in love with distance running. Since then she has run 10 marathons and several half-marathons. She is excited to have finally qualified for the Boston Marathon and looking forward to running it in 2015. Jamie is new to the pacing world and extremely excited to motivate others to reach their running goals.

Chris L. – 1:55 pacer

Chris has run distances from track events to marathons. As of the last eight or nine years he has activly been a pacer, coach and participant in many events to help promote the running community. This will be his second time pacing the Kansas Half-Marathon. He has also paced a number of marathons/half-marathons in KS/MO/NB. He is an elementary school teacher and coaches several different sports throughout the year.

Susie F. – 2:00 pacer

Susie looks forward to helping half-marathoners break the two-hour mark in her hometown of Lawrence (Rock Chalk!). Her running résumé includes six marathons and more than 20 half marathons. When she’s not running, she enjoys teaching an indoor cycling class and working with customers at Garry Gribble’s Running Sports. She’s a believer in smart pacing so you can finish strong, with a smile on your face.

Katie will bring her energy and love for all things running on race day. Katie has completed Ironman Louisville 2014, 21 marathons and ultra-marathons, including three Boston marathons, and a 50 miler in 8:13:00. Together we’ll chase down your 2:00 goal. Let’s go!

Joe H. – 2:05 pacer

Joe started running in 2009 and has been hooked ever since. He has completed numerous half and full marathons, with many more to come! Joe enjoys setting a goal for himself for every race and has met or exceeded those goals every time. He looks forward to helping you reach your goals and have a little fun at the same time!

Shauna L. – 2:05 pacer

Shauna used to hate running, but then started running to lose a few pounds. After a few races, she was hooked and started trying new distances and incorporating speed workouts and longer runs. She has since completed six marathons, including Boston, NYC, and Chicago, as well as several half marathons, 10ks, and 5ks. Shauna looks forward to pacing you to your goal and taking your mind off the mile markers so you can take it all in on race day. There is nothing like crossing that Finish Line on race day, especially with a shiny new PR.

Chad M. – 2:10 pacer

Chad got into running after his first of two ACL surgeries. His goal with any race is to finish and have a good time doing it. Chad enjoys helping fellow athletes hit their goals and is happy to answer any (ANY) questions they may have along the way. Chad’s racing history is marked with half marathons, marathons, Ironman 70.3s (Half Ironman) and he completed his first full distance Ironman in 2010.

Lauriel N. – 2:10 pacer

Lauriel absolutely loves race day mornings!! To date, Lauriel has run 10 marathons (2 of them as a pacer, 1 of them in Paris!), 10 half marathons (1 as a pacer) and dozens of shorter distance races. Using the SmartPace Strategy helped Lauriel run her marathon PR and 1st Boston qualifying time in the 2012 IMT Des Moines Marathon, so she knows it will help you achieve your goal, too! Larry L. – 2:15 pacer

Larry started running consistently in 2002 and is now a complete running junkie! Over the past 6 years, he completed 40+ trail ultra marathons. He has soloed Brew to Brew six times. When he isn’t pacing, he runs 50K, 50 mi, 100K and 100 mile trail races. He also competes in ironman distance triathlon (most recently Redman and Boulder). Pacing is a particular passion of Larry’s as he is always looking for like-minded runners who enjoy challenging their personal limits.

Stephanie S. – 2:15 pacer

Stephanie loves to run – and she loves to cheer people on to do their best. Put these two things together, and it only makes sense that Stephanie loves to pace! She has been running for over 15 years, and just recently finished her 20th full marathon. She has qualified for and run the Boston Marathon, as well as too many half marathons to count. Stephanie’s philosophy on pacing is to give her pace group tips and encouragement, conversation, fun…and a little bit of tough love to get you to the finish line.

Hilary B. – 2:20 pacer

Running has been a part of Hilary’s life for as long as she can remember. She has completed many races including 11 marathons and 12+ half marathons. She loves the sense of accomplishment that long distance running provides and uses the SmartPace strategy in her own races. She is excited to help you reach your running goals!

Megan D. – 2:20 pacer

Megan began running five years ago, after the birth of her sixth child. Since then she’s completed many half marathons, twelve marathons, a triathlon (ask her to tell you the story of her goggles!) and an ultra. She loves early morning runs with her friends, especially when they involve breakfast afterward. Megan promises to motivate and encourage you all the way to the finish line.

Krista S. – 2:25 pacer

October 2002 found Krista in Chicago cheering on a friend finishing his first marathon. At the end of the race she told him she couldn’t understand why anyone would want to run 26.2 miles! May 2005 Krista completed the Olathe Marathon which would be the first of 28 and still counting! A few of the races Krista has completed are the Chicago Marathon and Disney World Goofy Challenge (each 3 times) as well as in 2007 a marathon a month, including Lincoln. Krista’s favorite marathons are the ones she has run with friends and been able to encourage them along the way. Krista is excited about being able to motivate and encourage others, whether it is their first or 28th marathon!

Amy W. – 2:25 pacer

As a mother of four children, Amy enjoys both the mental and physical health benefits of running. Growing up with a father who ran regularly, Amy attended many races but didn’t start running until after she was married. Now she has completed 12 marathons and many half marathons. Having grown up cheering on her dad and other racers, pacing is great fit for Amy, encouraging others while still being able to run the race too.

Steve H. – 2:30 pacer

Steve picked up running in 2009 as a way to practice healthy habits and was soon hooked. His favorite race is Hospital Hill because it is a great course and really puts you to the test. Steve has paced 7 marathons (including Kansas City twice) and 7 half marathons. He will never stop encouraging the runners in his group because HIS goal is helping you reach YOUR goal. He strongly believes in running at ‘even effort’ using Smart Pacing in order to help his group run their best race possible.

Mary L. – 2:30 pacer

While always physically active, Mary did not become a long distance runner until after the age of 40. She set a goal to run a full marathon as a “bucket list” item and in the process discovered a passion for running. She has now completed 14 full marathons and over 20 half marathons. She enjoys being in the company of other runners and encouraging them to achieve their goals. Mary’s hope is that you complete the race by not only meeting your goal, but also having fun in the process!

Megan F. – 2:35 pacer

Megan has been running since the birth of her second daughter in 2010. She has run a dozen 1/2 marathons, including 1 trail 1/2, but is a rookie pacer. She works as a Recreation Director for Garden Terrace at Overland Park, a Skilled Nursing Facility for individual’s with dementia. She often races as a fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association. She also is part of a group called IRun4, which pairs runners with individuals with disabilities who can’t run for themselves! Megan enjoys meeting new people and exchanging running experiences and tips. She is excited to help you reach your race day goals!!

Thomas lives in Lenexa KS. A Husker fan originally from Nebraska, Thomas has been running for most of his life! As a member of Runner’s Edge, Thomas has participated in multiple different marathons as well as half marathon events all throughout the Midwest, stretching even as far as San Diego and Utah! Thomas is committed to helping other people accomplish their individual racing goals through a combination of SmartPace and Run Walk!

Sueann S. – 2:40 pacer

Sueann has been a runner with Runner’s Edge for the past 8 years. She has paced 8 half marathons and 5 marathons. With the encouragement of her oldest son, she started running at the age of 53. Since then she has run 13 marathons, 14 half marathons, and 1 ultra marathon. The variety of runs includes the “Goofy” run in Orlando and the Dublin Ireland Marathon. She believes in the Smart Pace method which includes a slow start for the first 2-3 miles; running a mile than walking a minute; walking through aid stations; going slow up hills, and increasing speed down the hill. She also believes running should be a fun and long lasting hobby.

Cynthia S. – 2:40 pacer

Cynthia has been a pace group leader for The Runner’s Edge for eight years. By employing the SmartPace strategy, Cynthia has successfully completed more than 40 marathons (which includes serving as a pacer for KC in 2007-2014; Hospital Hill in 2009-2014; Olathe in 2008-2015; Rock the Parkway 2010-2015; and Lincoln, Neb. 2011-2013, as well as others); two ultra road runs (33 miles x2), eight ultra trail runs (44 miles x2, 38 miles, and 31 miles x5), the Lake Tahoe Triple and many halves. She was awarded the Road Runner’s Club of America Grand Master Award for her finish in the 2010 Brew-to-Brew solo. Cynthia believes running comes from the head, the heart and the gut. She works with her group to use all those to your advantage. And she really enjoys encouraging others to do what they’ve never done before — to run farther, to run faster or just to run! And having fun is the best part of it all. Her strategy is to go out slow for the first 2-3 miles, run a mile and then walk a minute, walk through the aid stations for up to a minute, go very slow up hills and make up the time on the down hills while making sure you have even effort breathing the whole time.

Amanda has been running for most of her life. From 5Ks, to triathlons, to a 50K, Amanda has always enjoyed the social aspect of running and working out with friends. With her husband as a built-in running partner, and her daughter along for the shorter runs, Amanda has completed seven marathons, many half marathons and plans to continue running for many years to come.

Melissa started running on Mother’s Day 2012, and hasn’t looked back since. Melissa runs long on Saturday mornings, changing locations throughout the city, and always enjoys a good cup of coffee afterwards. She cross trains several days a week, and really enjoys yoga. Since starting to run she has completed 29 half marathons, and countless shorter distance races. She is an active member of KC Express, and a Half Fanatic (#4222). Look for her at local races and be sure to say hello. Melissa is a wife and mother to two young boys. Be prepared to chat the 13.1 miles, listen to her sing (badly), and discuss the latest and greatest tv shows or movies. Jen caught the running bug in 2007 after completing her first half marathon. Since then she has ran countless half marathons and 2 full marathons. She is also studying to obtain her ACE Personal Trainer Certification. Her inspiration comes from her sister’s death from type 1 diabetes. Now she uses her knowledge to inspire others to start running. Her goal is to encourage and help other runners reach their goal and have fun doing it. Her motto is “I run because I CAN!”

Amy owes her love for running to her son’s cross country coach. The coach encouraged parents to run the road races with the team. One race and she was hooked! After running several 5ks, she decided to give the longer distances a try. Her first half was Hospital Hill in Kansas City. That same coach paced her all the way!!! Amy believes that life should be lived to the fullest and that a positive attitude makes life more fun!!! Come join Amy and be uplifted as we take each mile as it comes with a smile!!!

Suzanne enjoys running with friends and family. She loves 5ks, 10ks and trail runs, and has enjoyed half marathons and obstacle challenges. She started off by running track in high school, and after college she decided to go back to track…but this time as a middle school and high school coach! Suzanne’s two children have also fallen in love with running and she enjoys doing 5ks and 10ks with them by her side. Suzanne looks forward to sharing her excitement and energy with those in her pace group!

Scotty J. – 3:00 pacer

Inspired by her marathoner daughter and motivated by a MS diagnosis and wheelchair in her past, Scotty started running in January 2008. She just completed her 39th half marathon. Yes, that means the Inaugural Longview Half Marathon will be number 40! She has also completed 5 marathons and a spattering of 5 and 10 K’s. Her goal this year has been to log more miles and continue to have fun doing it. Scotty was fortunate to meet the best pacers on the planet the first time she ran Hospital Hill Run. That experience with Janice and Kelly continues to motivate and inspire especially on the “today is not a good running day” days. Scotty has the honor of being a former Hospital Hill Run Hero and after that experience was bitten by the pacer bug. She will use every idea in the Magic Pacer Bag of Tricks to help you cross the finish line. Not being a speedster herself, Scotty recognizes and understands the unique challenges faced by “back-of-the-packers”. The goal is not just to finish, but to recognize and take pride in the individual accomplishment. And, have a GREAT time doing it!

Sharon started running after having 3 kids and was “smitten” by the marathon bug. Sharon has completed 12 marathons (her favorite marathons are the NY marathon and the Chicago Marathon), 2 twenty mile plus races (her absolute favorite race was in Big Sur, CA when she completed the 21 miler by the ocean – her plan is to go back to complete the Big Sur Marathon Spring 2016 when she turns 50), more than 60 half marathons locally and across the country, and is a member of both the Half Fanatics and Marathon Maniacs national running clubs. She looks forward to helping others their goals and possibly sharing the thrill of crossing the finish line with those that are new to running half marathons. Sharon uses a run/walk strategy which will allows for a fun, comfortable, strong finish.
