The Kansas Half Marathon/5k is in its 11th year and takes place in Lawrence, Kansas. Since its inception, the Kansas Half Marathon has helped offset costs and increase access to affordable health care services for those that are uninsured/underserved in Douglas County.

Heartland Community Health Center, the beneficiary of the race, is a non-profit Federally Qualified Health Center and Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home that serves Lawrence, KS and surrounding areas. Heartland offers high-quality integrated primary care to all community members, regardless of income or insurance status.

The medical clinic is similar to a family practice doctor’s office with the addition of acknowledging that we are more than just physical bodies. Heartland provides holistic care that includes primary care, mental and behavioral health, oral health, and physical therapy, along with a variety of wrap-around programs. According to research, there are approximately 36,000 people in Heartland’s service area that are in need of affordable, accessible health care, including more than 10,000 uninsured individuals.
